Eriogonum heermannii var. heermannii, from Big Rock Creek on the northern slope of the San Gabriels. These were further along in the year (September 11, 2008) as you can see.
Eriogonum heermannii is common at Big Rock Creek; same day as above.
Eriogonum heermannii
Same place, but this time on August 20, 2011. This butterfly - Apodemia mormo cythera - was only taking nectar. They use fasciculatum as their host.
