This is allscale saltbush, Atriplex polycarpa, from the southern part of Joshua Tree National Park in March of 2020. This is a larval food plant for Western Pygmy Blues and possibly Mojave Sootywings.
Closer shot of the small buds and leaves. Also known as cattle spinach, this is a native shrub in the Chenopodiaceae family. It blooms in July and August.
