Limochores sonora sonora
Sonoran Skipper
More common in northern than southern California, this is a summer skipper that is sometimes common around Big Bear, but usually isn't. I've seen it around the Bluff Lake/Siberia Creek area, Sugarloaf Trail/Wildhorse Meadow, and Metcalf Bay, all relatively lush, moist environments. I've also seen sonora up Sherman Pass Road in the Sierras, and on Frazier Mountain Road. 2011 was a boom year for it south of Big Bear, and I saw hundreds of them; up to that time, I had one or two photos, all from 2006. It's been up and down ever since, in my experience. Most of my sightings have been in late June, with a few in July and August.
